The group was formed in 2005, and until 2007 the group was made up of vocalist Ochi Shiho and guitarist Tabo Kouichi. Superfly became a solo act for Ochi from later in 2007 up to the present, but because Superfly retains a band sound Ochi decided to keep the name. After the group's major debut on 04/04/2007, Tabo changed his position in the group from an active member to a composer and arranger on 11/08/2007 (after 2 singles). Tabo is also active under the name "TABO" as a writer/producer/remixer for artists like Ito Yuna, Sakamoto Maya, BECCA and Asia Engineer. The group was named after the Curtis Mayfield song "Superfly".
