hey.. i'm not japanese so something pop-up in my head. let us share common japanese sentences here. whatever interesting sentences u might or already know, shared it here.

let me started... uh...ummm... what i'm going to start with

i got this from some books :-

1- nihongo de nan to iimasuka? (How do you say it in japanese)
2- watashi wa anata no koto daisuki desu! (i like U :lol: (normally in anime)
3. nani kangaeten-no? ( what are you thinking?)
4- kyoumi nai yo - (i'm not interested)
5- anata wa soko ni imasuka? (are you there?)
6- onaka ga ippai (i'm full)
7- onaka ga peko peko desu (i'm hungry)...

come on.. whatever sentences u can think of. share it among us.

Ah, such a difficult subject...because you see, even the sentences that are shared here, there are so many ways of saying, for so many different situations. For instance, if you used "nani kangaeten-no?" in certain social settings, you would most certainly be frowned at. So I guess that can be treated as someone of a disclaimer here.

This isn't really a sentence, but I think this is equally as important to know. If you become decent at speaking Japanese, and you speak it around Japanese people, whether you think you're good or not, they will inevitably compliment you on your Japanese. It's VERY important that you're able to respond accordingly! This isn't like other languages, where it's okay for you to just say "thank you", followed by some sort of explanation about how you've studied for a long time, or something. You need to have modesty with this kind of a response, and respond with something along the lines of "iie iie, mada mada desu ne." or "mada mada jouzu ni narimasen." Even if you are good, the secret is to make them think that at least you don't think you are, and that you have so much more to learn.

I guess I'll try and make an effort to post some advice, or important sentences here every few days or so.

oh... i didn't realize it would become so complicated o.O . i just think some sentences that can be used when we chat with japanese people or at least with someone who wants to learn japanese. that's why i only took some of the sentences/quote that easy to remember.

well.. stilzkin do have point there. coz i remember there're 'polite' and 'plain' form. but i really don't worry bout it too much. coz it is very low percentage that i will go to japanese itself .

anyway a tip from my friend :

1- please wait = chotto matte kudasai (normal condition)/ shoushou omachi kudasai (very polite form - usually used in business/telephone)

p/s : and i really really hope anybody can give advice in this thread from time to time. post your sentences, and we can discuss it later if the sentences suitable for certain occasion or not. this is translated site, make use of it. i know there're many with good nihongo here

私はかわいい日本人の男の子が大好きです！ - I like cute japanese boys XD

for the people who cant read japanese enough to see the characters [or comprehend it for that matter], the above says:

watashi wa kawaii nihonjin no otokonoko ga daisuki desu

i have a feeling people wont be using that though lmao

And here's some basic ones that most people probably know:

お名前はですか?
o-namae wa desu ka? [what is your name; polite way]

そです・そですか
so desu/so desu ka. [way to say i see in japanese, also used to ask someone's opinion, remember to add KA to it if your asking someone]

And probably the most common one people know:

私の名前はXXXXです
watashi no namae wa XXXX desu. [my name is XXXX]

I feel I should make one small correction...the name question should be more like "onamae wa nan desu ka?" instead of just "onamae wa desu ka?". If you don't include the "nan", you're not actually asking a question at all. I'm sure that you just forgot to include it though.

I've been taking it for over two years now... so I hope I know what I'm doing.

I have been studying and practising japanese for 4 years now, I have translated for several groups/sites and just to mention some:
- Kioku Konseki
- IdolThoughts (board)
- Frozen Layer (Mexican tracker and fansubs)
- Hello! Project fans Chile (Chilean tracker and forum)
- LAI forums (Japanese Idol boys forum I run)
And others.
I have been in Japan a couple of times already and I'm still taking japanese courses. I recently approved the 3kyuu test.
The thing is, I never said I don't understand your japanese, the thing I wondered is why do you write it so formally when not even japanese people use that form.

Because I learn in a classroom where I'm taught formal forms. Humble, Honorific, Honorific Passive... all in preparation for the AP. There will be more... so it's only going to get worse.

I also have a bit of a Shinji (read: inferiority) complex, so the humble forms help me there. But I feel a bit weird if I'm a bit too casual addressing elders... and my conversations, while fluid, have always been with elders. I have yet to converse with some Japanese person my age in Japanese, and when that happens, they will probably tell me to lay off. I probably will then.

But as of yet, I don't know any of you, and manners say I use keigo until I do.

EDIT: And because of your advanced experience, I feel I must humble myself in front of someone who has brought so much good to so many people. I've been wanting to translate for years, but my knowledge has never been good enough.
