No its cool with me and I apologize to you Stiltzkin and to anyone else I might have offended, Im not complaining about release times especially from those who do it more as a hobby. You guys are not a business so Im just thankful you guys are around. You guys do a great job, and your releases are of good quality especially the PVs. So keep it up!!

Maybe my question was a bit too broad. I meant more like is your Japanese and English good enough to just hear a song and can understand it line for line. Well, also I did imply when you did have time, it was assuming after everything including admin and real life agendas have been taken care of.

To the guys who do complain, tell them to learn Japanese and translate their own damn songs. :x

がんばったね。

Oh don't worry about Stiltz, he's just a grumpy old man. Give him a cane and a lawn chair and he'll start telling you to "get off his lawn" :-D

Hey Stiltz, translate faster! I see you playing video games, you slacker! :D

It's no problem. Again, sorry about that. I'm so used to getting complaints that sometimes even legitimate questions sound like attacks to me :o And thanks for the great compliments!

Well keep in mind that I'm not the only translator in the group. There are also Squarebox and Aki, and if they want to answer the question themselves they can feel free. I'll just be speaking for myself.

It all depends on the song for me. There certainly are songs that I can have all translated in my mind before I even open my Japanese word processor to "work on the song"! However, I guess I would say that those songs are somewhat few and far between. Most of the time I have to use a dictionary for one thing or the other, whether it be because I just am not familiar with the kanji, or I just have never heard the word before. Again, it largely depends on the writer and the complexity of the song. I'll give you some examples:

Can I translate a song by MAX all in my head? Yes, usually
Can I translate a song by The Yellow Monkey in my head? Probably not

My examples may be a bit dated for the modern J-Music fan, so I apologize. Once again showing how old I am, I guess :?

aqua time...

their lyrics are quite frankly amazing and take freakign forever to translate as there is just so much imagery in some of their lines i'm at a loss at whether ot translate the meaning or the feeling or such... They are one my favorite bands but i usually walk away saying i'll never translate one of their songs again...

for me... like stiltz it depends on teh song... however it can take anywhere between 2-4 hours i geuss. That's more so cause stiltz is anal about the romaji...

but i'm horrible at vocabulary so i usually have to end up looking up alot of the words... just not words or kanji you'd normally see in class...

like the word to meet someone is "au" but depending on the kanji you use can mean the difference in meetings a "friend" or a "significant other" (direct translation would be lover, but soudns retarded in english). And that kupo just doesn't translate well into english. Maybe i woudl say Tryst instead of meet or something... but that's the fuzzy line that in the end one has to choose.

and speakign of japanese... gotta get back to writing my essay in japanese about old people for class tomorrow.

LOL... You ask me how much does it take me to translate? That's the worse question you can ask me, it's almost an insult! XD
And this is because I'm really slow, if I translate it by ear, don't expect it until a week and it might still have some mistakes, but if I have the lyrics in kanji I can make it really fast, in 5 minutes! The biggest problem to me is my lack of time, because working and being in my last year of university gives me almost no time, so that's why it takes me a lot of time to finish it.
I can easily translate stuff I like such as Hikki and Johnny's songs, but if it's a singer I dunno or a song I have never even heard... it's going to be difficult to me D:

Lol, I guess i hit the taboo subject for you guys :chuckle:

And yeah Uni work is a handful especially final year studies, contact hours at uni itself is minimal but time required for projects outside of uni is hell of a lot.

Well, maybe you can talk to Hikki to translate her songs for us :-P

Both of my favorite artists are no longer active. They are Moritaka Chisato and Princess Princess.

However, two members of PuriPuri are still active. Kaori as a single artist and Kanako has been with Voodoo Hawaiians and Tokyo Rocks.
